Small Business Spotlight: Prime Media Productions

Prime Media

Founded in 1990 in Smithfield, Virginia, Prime Media’s business model called for the company to assist cable providers to affordably offer cable advertising in smaller, sometimes rural, cable systems.  The company’s first contract was with Insight Communications for its Franklin, Virginia system.

In the early and mid-90’s, finding a wide acceptance in the cable industry, Prime Media established partnerships with some of the largest names in the cable industry, including Cox Communications, Charter Communications, Comcast and a host of smaller independent operators across the country.

Prime Media has introduced cable advertising to many small and medium size businesses while also handling national advertising destined for the smaller systems. As the decade came to a close, Prime Media Productions found itself serving more than 35 cable systems in six different states.

Today, 21 years after its inception, the company represents 54 different cable systems in twelve different states.

Headquartered in Smithfield, Virginia, the company utilizes its advanced digital technology to receive, produce, deliver and schedule commercials to any one of its 54 different systems over high speed broadband connections. The company also utilizes a fully digital production department for commercial production in Smithfield.  The firm currently employs 32 people dedicated to the sale, creation and delivery of what many have called “the best advertising yet created because of its unique ability to target.”

Recently, the company acquired a small enterprise in Salt Lake City, UT that has been designing and implementing ad insertion equipment for the past 15 years. The new venture is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Prime Media, which is now designing state of the art digital insertion equipment. The equipment will be used by the company’s current client base and sold to other advertising entities.

If you are looking to market your business by advertising on cable TV, give Prime Media a call at 757-365-0151 or visit them on the web at www.primemediaproductions.com.

Bridges – New Bar & Restaurant Tempts Palates in Carrollton

Bridges Bar & Restaurant

Tommy and Patty Pruitt of Carrollton have been in the restaurant business for 30+ years, and they saw the potential at the former South of the James building at the foot of the James River Bridge.  Following an 18-month renovation, what was a vacant convenience store has been transformed into the family-owned and operated Bridges bar and restaurant. Bridges quietly opened its doors on September 14th and has been getting rave reviews.  The classy but casual restaurant serves American fare including steak, seafood and pasta.  Come out for dinner and then get out on the dance floor or play a round of billiards.

Bridges’ neighboring business, G&G’s Cycle Works, is also benefitting from the building renovations and recently installed new signage as well. G&G’s is celebrating 19 years in business and specializes in all major brands of dirt and street motorcycles and ATVs (Harley Davidson, Honda, Kawasaki, KTM, Polaris, Suzuki, and Yamaha). The shop also offers service, parts and accessories.

Bridges is located at 13162 Carrollton Blvd.  Hours are Monday-Sunday, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. For more information, call 757-238-2664 or visit www.bridgesva.com.
